Aelthar the Moonshade

The Ab'Dendriel city boss: a fallen elven archer-mage who marks his prey, rains arrows and vanishes into the Moon's Veil.

Updated 2026-10-12 · 6 questions answered

Aelthar was the finest archer of Ab'Dendriel until he traded the Moon for the many eyes of Vyl'thar. Now he guards the sacred moonwell beneath the city, and he shoots at anything that is not hidden.

How to get there

  1. Complete Ranger Aelindra's 10 missions (in the temple of Ab'Dendriel). See Ab'Dendriel: Ranger Aelindra and the missions of the city.
  2. Talk to Aelindra and say moonwell (or aelthar). You are taken to the antechamber.
  3. Stand on the 4 dark marble spots in front of the lever. The player who pulls stands on the spot next to the lever.
  4. Pull the lever. Everyone on the spots enters together.

The magic forcefield in the corner of the antechamber takes you back to the Ab'Dendriel temple. Inside the room, the forcefield in the bottom-right corner takes you back to the antechamber.

Every day

The missions are done only once. After that, every day: talk to Aelindra and say moonwell, stand on the spots and pull the lever. Win or lose, you can enter again 24 hours after you entered. Type !bosses in game to see how long is left.

Attacks

Attack Damage (group of 4)
Melee up to 300
Arrow at range 180 to 300
Energy bolt that bursts around the target 200 to 350
Mana drain at range 80 to 160

Alone you take 75% of this, with 2 players 85%, with 3 players 95%.

The mechanics

Every mechanic is announced: a red message in the middle of the screen, and the danger is marked on the floor before it hurts. When the fight starts you also get a summary.

1. Hunter's Mark: hide behind a column

From the 10th second, every 18 seconds Aelthar marks a player: "Name, you cannot hide from the moon!". For 5 seconds (7 in his fury), every second he can see you, an arrow hits you for 150 to 230. Behind a column, the arrow misses (you see a block).

TipThe room has 8 columns. When you are marked, put a column between you and Aelthar until the mark ends.

2. Arrow Rain: step off the blue squares

Every 11 seconds, a 3×3 square around each player flashes blue for 3 seconds, then energy arrows fall for 260 to 420.

3. The Moon's Veil: kill the wisps (60% and 30%)

At 60% and 30% he says "The moon hides me..." and vanishes: he becomes invisible and immune. Moonwell Wisps appear (2 alone, 3 with 2 or 3 players, 4 with a full group). When the last wisp dies, Aelthar reappears in the middle of the room.

TipWhile he is hidden there are no marks, but the arrow rain keeps falling: keep moving while you kill the wisps.

4. Fury (20%)

Below 20% he shouts "BY THE DARK MOON!", hits 30% harder and his marks last 7 seconds.

Strategy

  • Aelthar keeps his distance like a paladin: knights must chase him into a corner.
  • Stay close to a column at all times so you can hide when marked.
  • He resists energy: mages should use earth or death.
  • Paladins: the Hunter's Lamp (+3 distance) is one of his extra slot drops.

The reward: the Elven Boss Bag

Each player who took part receives a Elven Boss Bag in their Ab'Dendriel depot. If you died or disconnected, it arrives at your next login. See City Bosses.
