Valdric the Oathbroken
The Thais city boss: a fallen Lord Commander of the Royal Guard with five mechanics, fought alone or with up to 4 players once a day.
Valdric was Lord Commander of the Royal Guard of Thais until he broke his oath to the King. He sleeps in the royal crypt beneath the castle, guarded by stone wardens and by the men who followed him into betrayal.

How to get there
- Complete Captain Harkon's 12 missions in Frodo's tavern, north of the Thais temple. See Thais, the Royal Guard and its Missions.
- Talk to Harkon and say crypt (or valdric). He takes you to the antechamber of the royal crypt.
- Stand on the 4 dark marble spots in front of the lever. The player who pulls stands on the spot next to the lever.
- Pull the lever. Everyone on the spots enters the crypt.
The magic forcefield in the corner of the antechamber takes you back to the Thais temple. Inside the crypt, the forcefield in the bottom-right corner takes you back to the antechamber.
Every day
The 12 missions are done only once. After that, the routine is the same every day:
- Go to Captain Harkon in Frodo's tavern, north of the Thais temple and say crypt.
- Stand on the spots and pull the lever.
- Win or lose, you can enter again 24 hours after you entered. Type !bosses in game to see how long is left.

The mechanics
Every mechanic is announced: a red message appears in the middle of the screen and the danger is marked on the floor before it hurts. When the fight starts you also get a summary of all five.
1. Royal Judgement: step off the red floor
Every 10 seconds Valdric shouts "KNEEL BEFORE YOUR LORD COMMANDER!". The floor under each player, and a couple of squares nearby, flashes red for 3 seconds and then explodes for 260 to 420 physical damage.
TipMove off the flashing squares as soon as you see them. One step is enough.
2. The Duel: stay close
From the 15th second, every 25 seconds Valdric challenges one player: "Name, FACE ME!". That player gets a red message and must stay within 2 squares of Valdric for 6 seconds. Every second further away costs life (110 to 160). Yellow rings mean you're close enough.
TipMages and paladins: when you're challenged, walk up to him for 6 seconds, then step back.
3. Oath Wardens: break the statues (70% and 35%)
At 70% and again at 35% health, winged Oath Wardens wake up in the corners of the crypt. A blue beam links each of them to Valdric. While any warden stands:
- Valdric is immune: your hits only show a block;
- he heals 0.5% every 2 seconds;
- above his head he shows how many wardens are left.
Wardens don't move or attack. There are 2 alone, 3 with 2 or 3 players and 4 with a full group. Break them all and Valdric becomes vulnerable again.
4. The Fallen Guard: kill the guards (50%)
At 50% the guards who followed him rise: one more than the number of players (up to 4). A black beam links each guard to Valdric. While any guard lives, Valdric takes half damage.
Guards hit up to 180 in melee and are weak to holy. Kill them first, then go back to Valdric.
5. Fury (20%)
Below 20% Valdric shouts "I WILL TAKE THAIS WITH ME!" and hits 30% harder until the end. Red sound waves around him remind you.
Strategy
- Knight: tank Valdric away from the group so the cleave only hits you. Keep him off the corners when the wardens wake up.
- Group: split the corners when the wardens appear. At 50%, everybody switches to the guards.
- Alone: bring plenty of potions. The fight has fewer wardens and guards and less damage, but the timer is the same 15 minutes.
- The four pillars in the room block line of sight. Use them to break his life drain.
The reward: the Thaian Boss Bag
Each player who took part receives a Thaian Boss Bag in their Thais depot. If you died or disconnected, it arrives at your next login. See City Bosses.

Equipment: royal helmet, warrior helmet, knight armor, knight legs, crown armor, crown legs, crown shield, fire sword, bright sword, dragon lance, guardian halberd, wand of inferno, wand of cosmic energy, moonlight rod, tempest rod and skull staff. Each piece has a 15% chance to be Rare. See Item Rarity (Rare, Epic, Legendary).
Special items: thaian sword, heroic axe, cranial basher (knights), modified crossbow and warsinger bow (paladins), spellbook of mind control, northwind rod and focus cape (mages). They can also come Rare.
Extra slot items: Iron Lantern (regenerates 3 health every 3 seconds), War Lantern (sword, axe and club +3, knights only) or Sun Censer (8% holy protection). See Extra Slot.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to talk to Harkon every day?
Yes. Harkon is the only way into the crypt: say "crypt" to him every time you want to face Valdric. The missions are done only once.
How do I get to Valdric?
Finish Captain Harkon's 12 missions, then say "crypt" to Harkon. He takes you to the antechamber.
Why can't I damage him?
The Oath Wardens are standing. Break the winged statues in the corners and he becomes vulnerable.
Why is my damage so low?
The Fallen Guard is alive. While a guard lives, Valdric takes half damage.
What is the red floor?
Royal Judgement. It explodes 3 seconds after it appears. Step off it.
I was challenged to a duel. What do I do?

Can I do it alone?
Yes. Alone Valdric has 22,500 health and you take 25% less damage, with fewer wardens and guards.
Where does my reward go?
A Thaian Boss Bag goes to your depot in Thais.
What is the best drop?
An extra slot item (4%): Iron Lantern, War Lantern or Sun Censer. A Rare equipment piece is also a great drop.
