Rookgaard, Aldric's Missions and the Journal
Your first island: six missions from Commander Aldric, the Journal that records your story, and the Oracle that sends you to Thais.
Every adventurer starts on Rookgaard, a small island where you learn the game without pressure. On Puria the island has a story: a commander with missions for you, a journal that writes down your first steps, and a farewell when you leave.
Commander Aldric
Aldric stands in the central square of the village. The first time you greet him (say hi), he asks which language you prefer: English or Portuguese. You can change it later by saying language.
His six missions must be done in order. Each one has a minimum level and gives a reward and an achievement.
| # | Mission | Level | What to do | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sewer Rats | 1 | Bring 5 fresh rat corpses (you can deliver them a few at a time). | The healing spell exura infir (5 mana, cast from level 2) |
| 2 | Barracks Kitchen | 2 | Bring 5 pieces of meat or ham. | 100 gold and 5 rolls |
| 3 | Aerial Scout | 3 | Fly a loaned phoenix for 1 hour and reach the four winds of the island. | 150 experience and 100 gold |
| 4 | Troll Patrol | 4 | Kill 15 trolls. | Carlin sword and 200 experience |
| 5 | The Crypt | 6 | Defeat the Grave Robber in the crypt. | Copper shield and 400 experience |
| 6 | Recruit's Trial | 8 | Defeat the Rat King in the sewers under the village. | 800 experience and 300 gold |
The Aerial Scout flight
Aldric lends you a phoenix for one hour. Fly to the four tips of the island, the four winds:
- North Cliffs
- Western Cape
- Eastern Point
- Southern Shore
Get close to each one while flying. Use !up and !down to change your flying height. You get warnings at 10, 5 and 1 minute left. If the hour runs out, ask Aldric for the phoenix again. You can only fly over the island and a little of the sea around it.
The two bosses
- The Grave Robber lives in the crypt in the south-west of the island.
- The Rat King lives in the sewers under the village.
Both come back every 10 minutes. You don't need the last hit: everyone who damaged the boss with the mission active gets the credit, so you can team up.
Your title
Aldric's missions give you a title that other players see when they look at you:
| Missions done | Title |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | Recruit of Rookgaard |
| 3 to 5 | Soldier |
| All 6 | Veteran |
The Rookgaard Explorer
Some adventurers fall in love with the island. If you finish all six missions and reach level 12 without a vocation, talk to Aldric to become a Rookgaard Explorer:
- you receive your own phoenix mount (it flies only over Rookgaard);
- your name enters the Hall of Rookgaard on the website.
ImportantAn Explorer can still leave the island at any time through the Oracle. When you receive a vocation, the phoenix stays in Rookgaard and your title becomes "former Rookgaard Explorer".
The Journal
Your Journal writes down your story on the island automatically. Open it with Ctrl+J or the button at the top of the screen. You also receive it as a book; if you lose the book, ask Aldric for a new journal.
Its pages:
- I arrived in Rookgaard: the day your story began.
- Aldric's missions: each mission, with date and reward.
- Places: the first time you visit each of the 10 places of the island.
- Hunts: the first kill of each of the 17 creatures.
- Bosses: the Grave Robber and the Rat King.
- The sky: your phoenix, first flight and the four winds.
- Milestones: levels 2, 5 and 8, and your first death (and who killed you).
- Farewell, Rookgaard: written when you leave, with the vocation you chose.
The Journal only records while you have no vocation. It is also shown on your character page on the website.
The Oracle: leaving the island
When you are ready, climb to the Oracle.
- You must be level 8 or higher and have no vocation. There is no maximum level: you can stay on the island as long as you want.
- Choose knight, paladin, sorcerer or druid. The choice is permanent.
- The Oracle sends you to Thais, which becomes your home city.
- You receive a starter weapon for your vocation, plus a new backpack with a rope and a shovel. Knights also get the wooden sword, wooden axe and wooden club, and paladins the throwing pebble (see Rates). Nothing is dropped on the floor: if the backpack does not fit, it goes to your Store Inbox. Lost them? Quentin, in the Thais temple, gives them back for free (say wooden).
- If you leave above level 8, your health, mana and capacity are adjusted to your new vocation, exactly as if you had chosen it at level 8 and leveled up since then. Staying longer on the island never makes your character weaker.
Not sure which vocation to pick? Read Vocations and Promotion.
Frequently asked questions
I died and lost my wooden weapons. How do I get them back?
Talk to Quentin in the Thais temple and say wooden. Knights choose which one they want (sword, axe or club); paladins get the throwing pebble. One weapon per request, only if you are not already carrying it. The first one is free; after that each one costs 1,000 gold (from your backpack or your bank). If it does not fit, it goes to your Store Inbox.
Can I skip one of Aldric's missions?
No. They unlock in order, and each one has a minimum level.
Do I need the last hit on the Rat King or the Grave Robber?
No. Everyone who damaged the boss while doing the mission gets the credit.
The boss is dead. How long until it comes back?
Ten minutes.
My phoenix hour ran out before I found all four winds.
Talk to Aldric again and he lends you the phoenix for another hour. The winds you already reached are kept.
I am above level 8 in Rookgaard. Can I still leave?
Yes, at any level. The Oracle adjusts your health, mana and capacity to your new vocation, as if you had chosen it at level 8.
Do I lose health or mana by staying longer in Rookgaard?
No. When you choose your vocation, your health, mana and capacity are recalculated for your level, so you end up exactly like a character who left at level 8.
Do I have to do the missions?
No, but they give equipment, gold, experience and achievements, and teach you the basics. They are worth it.
Where is my Journal?
Press Ctrl+J. If you lost the book, ask Aldric for a new journal.
What happens to my Explorer phoenix if I get a vocation?
You lose it, and your title becomes "former Rookgaard Explorer".
